–> Worlds tallest statue, Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was unveiled by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 31st October.
–> Constructed by L&T (Larsen & Toubro) & sculpted by Padma Vibhushan Ram V. Sutar.
–> Statue of Unity stands 182 meter (597 feet) above the Narmada River in the state of Gujarat.

–> Bronze is the chief material used in the Statue of Unity.
–> Statue of Unity is unveiled on 31st October which is birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and this day is also celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
–> Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was introduced by the Government of India and inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
–> It is to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was instrumental in keeping India united.
–> Statue of Unity is unveiled on this day 31st october, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas
–> Celebrated every year on 31st October as annual commemoration of the birthday of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel . He is also regarded as the Iron Man of India.
–> Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, during his term as Home Minister of India is credited for the integration of over 550 independent princely states into India from 1947-49 by Independence Act 1947. This is the reason why National Unity Day celebrated on the birthday of Sardar patel.
–> He is known as the “Bismarck of India”. (Bismarck was a conservative Prussian statesman who ruled German and European affairs from the 1860s to 1890s. Bismarck was also the first Chancellor of the German Empire between 1871 and 1890 )
CSIR develops Less Polluting Firecrackers
CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research ) scientists have developed Less Polluting Firecrackers.
These Firecrackers are not only environment friendly but 15-20 % cheaper than the conventional ones as said Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forest & Climate Change at a press conference.
These crackers have been named as safe water releaser (SWAS), safe minimal aluminium (SAFAL) and safe thermite cracker (STAR).
