Supreme court decriminalises Gay Sex

Supreme court decriminalises Gay Sex and says homosexuality is not a crime. Gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual people have the right to constitutional equality in “all its manifestations”, and majoritarian views and popular morality cannot dictate constitutional rights, the bench said.

United Nations lauded the verdict and said it’s a first stepping stone towards guaranteeing full fundamental rights to LGBT community. LGBT stands for stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.

As published in timesofindia, SC said further that age old Section 377 of IPC was a weapon to harass members of the LGBT community, resulting in discrimination. But also states that other aspects of the Section 377 which deals with unnatural sex with animals and children will remain in force.

Many tweets by celebrities applauded the decision.

Google with Election Commission

Google will soon help the Election Commission (EC) of India to keep a vigil on online political advertising.

The tech giant will develop a mechanism for pre certification of political advertisements. It will also enable to provide the details of the expenses incurred on its platform.

The pre certification has to be done from Election commission as the Commission is the nodal body for pre certification of any politically motivated advertisements which is released by either the party or individual.

Bharat Bandh  for  SC/ST Act

To protests against the amendment to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (commonly referred to as the SC/ST Act) was passed in the Parliament in July that overrode the Supreme Court ruling diluting it, a Nationwide Bharat Bandh has been called. Section 144 has been put in many parts of Madhya Pradesh.

What is Section 144

Section 144 (unlawful assembly) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973 empowers an executive magistrate to formally forbid any assembly of more than four persons in an area.

It’s done mainly when a riot type situation arises. The maximum punishment for engaging in rioting is rigorous imprisonment for 3 years or fine or both.

Each member will be held responsible for the crime committed by the group. First time used in British Raj in 1861 and used extensively during the Indian independence movement.

No to environmental clearance for Eco sensitive zones

After the recent Kerala floods and the serious stress it caused to the pristine Western Ghats Ecology, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) took some tough decision.

NGT has asked six states which has parts of Western Ghats in their region to refrain from giving any environmental clearance which can adversely affect the ecologically sensitive areas.

The states in concern are Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Indian army to get SpyLite

Indian Army to get mini UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) systems for high altitude aerial surveillance from Israel. This order has been bagged by Cyient Solutions & Systems Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between IT firm Cyient and BlueBird Aero Systems of Israel.

It is named as SpyLite which is fully autonomous mini unmanned aerial system that is electric, combat proven and suited for high altitude.

 

Mandalam­Makaravilakku pilgrim season at Sabarimala, Kerala

After the recent Kerala floods, government here facing tough challenge for smooth conduct of the 67­day annual event Mandalam­Makaravilakku at Sabarimala.

Main base camp of Pampa in the foothills of Sabarimala where parking of vehicles and other accommodation centers was there during the event has been heavily destroyed after the recent floods.

Sabarimala dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is a Hindu pilgrimage centre located at the Periyar Tiger Reserve in the Western Ghat mountain ranges in Kerala.

SC verdict on minor rape survivor

In a major decision by the Supreme court of India the minor survivors of rape assault will be getting compensation on par with women victims. Supreme court extended the National Legal Services Authority’s (NALSA) compensation scheme for woman rape survivors to minor children too.
